Comments

Our fearless founder Denise noticed some untoward comments on her blog. So I checked the comments on this blog and found about 500 spam comments, all in the last four months (since 26 Jan 2013, to be precise), and most on old posts, which I have deleted. Only one was porn, BTW.

What to do now?

Basically there are five choices, as I see it.

1. Do nothing. That's not a viable option as I would spend WAY too much time deleting spam.
2. Use word verification. I know some of you use it, and I do understand why you do. But as a personal preference, I HATE WV.
3. Approval of all comments. Seems to cut the free flow of the discussion, and makes more work for me. I do this on my own blogs, and that's effort enough.
4. Approval of comments after so many days, since most spam is on older posts. I have done this; it was 8 days, but I changed it to 15 when I:
5. Eliminated anonymous comments, which is virtually all the problem, by utilizing Open ID, which you can read about HERE. It should work with those of you who are using most blogging products. I hope this is not too onerous. If so, write to me at rogerogreen [at] gmail [dot] com.

The R in the Month

Photos from Wikipedia

There 's a good girl!!

Oh,come on!!

You're a big boy now...

When I think of the letter R,  I immediately  see before my mind's eye  a bottle of cod-liver oil!
Huh??
Yes, cod-liver oil!!

My mum used to say:" the R is in the month, which means, that you children, will get a spoonful of cod-liver oil every night before going to bed!". And so we had to swallow that nasty tasting stuff from September till May. My mum said it was healthy and protected us against all kind of diseases.
When my children were still very young, my doctor advised me to give them a similar medicine, which tasted a lot better because of the orange juice in it. And again as soon as the R was taking place in the winter months, I gave the children a spoonful of the stuff  and they didn't like it either. When April was over and May had begun, I stopped giving them this medicine!

Q is for questions?

Were you aware of a comic book villain named the Riddler, whose garb always featured one or more question marks? Did you know that, on the campy 1960s TV show Batman, the Riddler, who was usually played by Frank Gorshin (pictured), was once played by John Astin?

Are you familiar with the song Question by the Moody Blues [LISTEN], which got up to #21 on the Billboard charts in 1970? Do you recognize Questions 67 And 68 by Chicago [LISTEN], ne the Chicago Transit Authority, which got only to #71 in 1969, but was re-released and went to #24 in 1971?

Should I introduce you to the group ? [question mark] and the Mysterians? Have you heard their hit, 96 Tears [LISTEN], which got up to #1 in 1966?

Did you know that when you enter your link onto that Linky thing at ABC Wednesday, one or more of our team will come to visit your post? Were you informed that you should check the Linky link to make sure it works with your post? Have you read in the rules that your post should both mention ABC Wednesday AND have an appropriate mention of the week's letter, such as Q is for Quotations?

Am I excited to see what quaint, quirky items you are going to share this week?
